Uterus Cancer :
Uterus cancer is one of the most commonly seen cancers in women. It is otherwise medically termed as endometrial cancer as it affects the endometrial lining of the uterus. There are different types of uterus cancers based on the type of cells affected. A family history of uterus cancer, personal history of hormonal disorders and obesity may act as predisposing factors. Abnormal vaginal discharge or prolonged bleeding, lower abdominal pain and tenderness are some of the associated clinical symptoms to be evaluated by a gynecologist. A set of clinical investigations such as pelvic exam, imaging tests and ultrasound, dilation and curettage (D&C) and endometrial tissue biopsy are conducted to assess the staging of uterus cancer. A surgical procedure of hysterectomy is performed, followed by oncological management. A regular follow-up with gynecologists and annual pelvic screenings may help to detect early cancer stages and prevent the progression rate. Avoiding prolonged usage of hormonal replacement therapy and following a healthy lifestyle may significantly help in prevention of uterine cancers.
