Uterine Fibroids :
Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that form in the wall of the uterus. Uterine fibroids are classified into several types, such as submucosal fibroids, intramural fibroids, pedunculated fibroids, and subserosal fibroids. The presenting complains of uterine fibroids when they grow in size include bleeding between the periods, excessive or painful bleeding during the period, a feeling of fullness in the lower abdomen, frequent urination, low back pain, pain during sex, constipation or feeling pressure on the rectum, inability to urinate or completely empty the bladder, long term vaginal discharge and increased abdominal distension, making the abdomen to look pregnant. The management of uterine fibroids includes various methods such as taking medications like over the counter pain medications, birth control, iron supplements, gonadotropin releasing hormone agonists and oral therapies, and surgery to remove fibroids like myomectomy using laparoscopy or hysteroscopy or laparotomy, uterine fibroid embolization and hysterectomy.
