Trigger Finger :
when the fingers of the hand are locked and unable to flex it is known as trigger finger. It is most common in the age group of 40- 60 years and it can occur irrespective of any gender. It is also known as tenosynovitis.Trigger finger happens when the tendon around the finger gets swollen up and the tendon slips into it making the fingers not to bend. It can be presented to any finger in the wrist.
Patients with underlying disease like uncontrolled diabetes, hypothyroidism and arthritis are more prone to have this trigger finger. Symptoms of trigger finger include unable to bend the finger, tenderness at the bottom of the affected finger, and clicking sound in the fingers. Trigger finger may interrupt our daily routine. Diagnosis is generally done by physical examination, x ray. Treatment usually targets to control the underlying disease, Also it may include medication like anti inflammatory medication, splinting and exercises. Even in some cases surgery may be advised which is done under local anaesthesia and can be done on a out patient basis.
