Thyroid Cancer :
Thyroid cancer refers to the carcinoma of the thyroid gland, which is located at the base of the neck and is a part of the endocrine system. Thyroid cancers are classified into several types such as follicular, papillary, medullary and anaplastic thyroid cancer. The significant signs of thyroid cancer are loss of voice, swollen lymph nodes in the neck and difficulty in breathing or swallowing. The chief symptoms of thyroid cancer indicating that it has spread to other regions of body include tiredness, nausea and vomiting, unexpected weight loss and loss of appetite. The causative factors of thyroid cancer include similar family history, enlarged thyroid gland or goiter, thyroiditis, low iodine intake, obesity, radiation therapy for head and neck cancers and gene mutations. Thyroid cancer is treated by various options such as surgical methods including lobectomy or thyroidectomy, radiation therapy (external radiation therapy and brachytherapy), radioiodine therapy, hormone therapy and chemotherapy.
