Skull fracture :
Skull fractures are commonly seen in traumatic head injuries during motor vehicle accidents, physical assaults, fall or sports injuries. Skull or cranium vault is made of several bones to protect the brain within. Skull fractures are classified into different types based on the severity and location. Fractures can be linear or simple without affecting the associated structures. During certain skull fractures, one or more bones are damaged. The broken skull bones may sometimes protrude into the brain leading to internal hemorrhage. Immediate signs of skull fracture are vision changes, bleeding from nose or ears, altered mental state and syncopal episodes. Neurological assessment followed by CT or MRI scan of skull and brain is mandatory to rule out any critical conditions.
