Shoulder Dislocation :
Dislocation of the shoulder results due to dislocation of the humerus from the socket of the shoulder blade or scapula. The injury usually occurs from trauma, such as falls, injuries from sports, or road accidents. There would be acute pain at the shoulder along with swelling and gross deformation of the region. The patient usually portrays limited range of motion along with numbness and tingling in the limb. A physiologic examination and an imaging test, such as an X-ray, would be done to ascertain the presence of a dislocation and rule out fractures. Reduction is the standard treatment procedure. The humerus is manually replaced into the socket using some form of repositioning maneuver and, at times, is performed under sedation or anesthesia. The patient then ambulates with a sling or the bracing device on the shoulder, thus immobilized during healing. Recovery can be supplemented with physiotherapy to strengthen the shoulder and regain function. They help in dealing with shoulder dislocations or separation of the bones in the shoulder joint, prevented and maximally recovered with treatment by orthopedic surgeons. Early management minimizes complication.
