Renal Angioplasty :
The renal artery is the main blood vessel that carries blood to the kidneys. This artery can become narrow or get blocked entirely due to factors like high cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity. A narrowed or blocked renal artery can cause high blood pressure and severe kidney problems. Renal angioplasty is a procedure in which a doctor widens this artery to restore correct blood flow. During the procedure, the doctor injects a special X-ray dye near the renal artery. This dye allows the doctor to view the artery clearly using an X-ray. A thin and bendable tube called a catheter is then guided into the renal artery. After positioning the catheter near the narrowed spot, the doctor inflates the balloon at the tip of the catheter to widen the artery. The doctor may also place a stent (mesh tube) in the artery to hold it open.
