Rectal Cancer :
Rectal cancer is the cancer that primarily develops inside the rectum, which is the last part of the large intestine. Most of the times it is because of the abnormal cell growth into precancerous growths called polyps. Typically it arises with age and a family history of the same, though inflammatory bowel diseases are one of its causes and lifestyle concerns like dietary patterns and smoking patterns. Other symptoms include a change in bowel habits, common bleeding, sharp abdominal pain, and even sudden loss of weight. To make a diagnosis, a physical examination and even digital rectal exam are involved, accompanied by other imaging tests like colonoscopy, CT scan or MRI to know how extensive the disease is. The treatment varies with the stage of the cancer for colorectal cancer. There are some such screening activities like the tumor may be removed through surgery and the combination of radiation and chemotherapy to kill the cancer cells. Screening can also include some such as colonoscopies. Early detection is crucial especially for the at-risk individual. Early intervention gives patients with rectal cancer a much better prognosis and outcome regarding the treatment.
