Ovarian cyst :
Ovarian cyst is a solid or fluid filled cystic lesion present inside the ovaries or on the surface lining. Presence of ovarian cysts may cause significant pelvic pain, lower abdominal tenderness, bloating, abnormal vaginal bleeding and difficulty urinating. Ovarian cysts are the cause of infertility in women. Hormonal changes, strong family history of ovarian cancer or cyst, past surgical history of pelvic muscles, and older age groups have increased susceptibility to develop ovarian cysts. They can be benign neoplastic, cancerous and functional cysts. A gynecologist may conduct routine pelvic exam and imaging studies such as CT or MRI scan of lower abdomen for further confirmation. Medical management with hormone therapy can be used. Laproscopy and laparotomy are surgical procedures which can be used to remove the ovarian cysts.
