Neuroma :
Neuroma is a benign (non dangerous/non cancerous) growth of nervous tissue like nerve fibers , myelin sheath etc., Neuromas are often painful, uncomfortable and cause nerve damage. They can be acoustic neuroma which causes dizziness, headache, vertigo , ringing sensation, numbness, Ganglioneuroma , Pacinian neuroma , traumatic neuroma/scar neuroma(often due to surgery) ,morton's neuroma ( inflammation on one of the nerves in the feet) etc,. risk factors include nerve damage/trauma, repetitive stress or irritation, genetic predisposition, sports etc. Symptoms include tingling, numbness, swelling and pain between the toes and pain getting worse with high heels, difficulty in standing and walking ,pain and discomfort in the affected area ,redness , discoloration etc,. It is diagnosed with medical history, imaging like ultrasound,MRI, NCS (nerve conduction studies),EMG . Management depends on the patients symptoms and severity and it can be either conservative (orthotics, shoe inserts, anti-inflammatory drungs, phsiotherapy etc,.) or surgical (neuroma removal, nerve decompression, nerve repair/grafting etc.)
