Nerve injuries :
Nerve injury is trauma to the nerve, inducing symptoms like pain, numbness, discomfort, tingling sensations, and weakness in a person. Nerve injuries are classified into several types such as mononeuropathy which refers to damage of one single nerve causing tarsal syndrome or carpal tunnel, neuropathic pain that is injury to the peripheral nerves causing neuropraxia and diabetes- related neuropathy, trigeminal nerve injury and peroneal nerve injury causing facial pain and numbness and vagus nerve injury that presents as slow digestion, low blood pressure and fainting. Nerve injuries are evaluated by running tests like EEG, spinal tap, EMG, MRI, CT and ultrasound, nerve conduction study and skin biopsy. The treatment approach for nerve injuries involves non surgical options like splinting and physical therapy and the surgical procedures comprise decompression, nerve repair, neurolysis, nerve or tendon transfer.
