Mums :

Mumps is a viral infection whereby the salivary glands, particularly the parotid glands, would be severely affected and present swellings on the two sides of the cheek and jaw. Swollen cheeks and soreness of the jaw are among the major symptoms. Mumps is acquired directly from infected saliva like from coughing or sneezing and utensils. Whereas symptoms like fever, headache, generalized muscle aches and loss of appetite are presented days before the swelling appears, the latter may appear some days after infection but can be bilateral or unilateral.

Mumps are usually a relatively uncomplicated disease but can be quite serious in adults. Orchitis may develop in males, in which the affected testicles may impair fertility. In females, the infection may cause inflammation of ovaries and rarely causes meningitis or hearing loss. There is no special treatment for mumps. Treatment is only reduced to the use of rest, hydration, and pain relievers. In fact, there is only one thing that prevents this disease and it is vaccination, particularly against measles, mumps, and rubella, MMR vaccine, which almost completely reduces the risk of infection.
