Mouth Cancer :
Mouth cancer is often mistaken as a common problem as it appears as a sore on the lips, the main difference would be that the sore which has formed will not go away on its own, rather if left untreated it can spread to other parts of the mouth like tongue, cheeks, and oropharynx which may also lead in development of oropharynx cancer. Clinically it is also known as oral cancer. Abnormal multiplication of squamous cell in the oral cavity is considered as one of the main reason for mouth cancer. Unhealthy life style like smoking, drinking, and usage of tobacco contained products, underlying family history are some of the causes for developing a oral cancer.
Chronic bad breath, numbness in the face and neck, unexplained weight loss, bleeding sores on the mouth, and difficulty in chewing and swallowing are some the common symptoms which we can observe in a patient with oral cancer. Diagnosis is made through physical examination, biopsy, laryngoscopy and imaging tests such as X-rays, CT scans or MRIs, which signify the spread of the cancer. Treatment options include radiation therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. In some cases depending upon the severity of the disease even surgery would be advised.
