Metabolic Diseases :

Metabolism is the process of production of energy from the food consumed. A metabolic disease or disorder occurs when abnormal chemical or enzyme reactions affect any aspect of the metabolism, which can cause different symptoms and complications within the body. Major metabolic diseases that affect people are diabetes, Gaucher disease, hemochromatosis, and phenylketonuria. They can be caused by genetic abnormalities, organ dysfunction, mitochondrial dysfunction, lifestyle factors like diet and exercise, obesity, age, stress, sleep disorders, and certain medications. People with metabolic diseases experience symptoms based on the condition caused but majorly experience increased thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision, fatigue, changes in skin texture and color, and muscle weakness. They can be diagnosed through physical examination by an Endocrinologist, various blood investigations and imaging techniques. Treatment plans vary based in the cause and symptoms of the condition, which include medical management, hormone therapy, and surgical management if needed. Early consultation with an Endocrinologist is recommended to the patient with metabolic diseases to avoid for better treatment plans and avoid any further complications that might be fatal.
