Lung Infections :
Lung infections -Commonly called pneumonia, this is an infection of the lungs characterized by inflammation of the air sacs within the lungs due to bacteria, viruses, fungi, or any other type of irritant. These infections may be mild or severe and may come with symptoms such as chills and fever, difficulty breathing in shallow breaths, chest pain, and coughing, often accompanied by mucus, as well as feelings of fatigue. Usually the infection affects either one or both lungs and mainly those patients with weak immunity, who are elderly as well and chronic lung diseases. For diagnosis a physical examination, chest X-ray, and sputum culture usually determine the causative agent. Treatment is dependent on each kind of infection whereas antibiotics would be targeted in the treatment of bacterial pneumonia, antiviral medications or support for the treatment of viral pneumonia would be needed. All these considerations being observed, proper hygiene practice, over the counter medication for the symptoms, and immunity from diseases such as pneumococcal vaccines and nonsmoking, will improve prospects for treatment of lung infections. In case of a severe attack, patient must be taken into the hospital for proper treatment before the condition worsens further.
