Low Vision :
Low vision is a condition in which the eye sight or vision is impaired in such a way that it cannot be treated with glasses, contact lens or surgeries. It is considered as moderate to severe visual impairment which causes hindrance in daily activities. Low vision can present not only as a refraction error but also as blind spots, loss of peripheral vision and blurred vision etc. It can occur due to various underlying conditions such as amblyopia, diabetic retinopthy, retinopathy of prematurity in newborns,macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma, stabismus or cross eyes, brain injury, eye trauma, optic nerve atrophy etc. The patients often present with symptoms like loss of depth perception, central vision loss (inability to see centre of the visual feild), nigh vision loss and causes difficulty in reading, driving , concentration problems in school going children, frequent squinting and blinking etc. Although there is no permanent cure for low vision visual rehabilitation helps to maximize the vision and provides methods to carry out the daily activities.
