Lipoma :
Lipoma refers to a lump of tissue that is round or oval-shaped beneath the skin. They are mostly seen on the back, trunk, arms, neck, and shoulders. Lipomas are encapsulated, painless, round or oval-shaped, movable, and smaller than 2 inches in diameter. Types of lipoma are angiolipomas, angiomyolipomas, myelolipomas, fibrolipomas, hibernomas, ossifying lipoma, spindle cell lipomas, pleomorphic lipomas, chondroid lipomas and neural fibrolipomas. It may be caused by conditions like Dercum's disease, Gardner syndrome, hereditary multiple lipomatosis, and Madelung's disease. Risk factors include obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Diagnosis is made by ultrasound scan, MRI scan, and CT scan. Lipoma is removed if it is cancerous, growing quickly, causing pain and discomfort, interferes with body functions, and causes distress.
