Kidney Diseases :
When the kidney starts failing to function properly it is known as kidney disease. It might be acute one or a chronic one. Chronic kidney disease might lead to kidney failure. Symptoms of kidney disease include swelling of legs and hands, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, cramps in the muscle, puffiness of face and elevated blood pressure. Some of the causes for kidney disease include uncontrolled blood sugars, uncontrolled blood pressure, recurrent kidney infection, abuse of pain killers and other diseases like lupus, polycystic kidney disease, and nephrotic syndrome. Investigations which a nephrologist might suggest for a patient include basic blood investigations which include serum creatinine, electrolytes, urine test and imaging studies like ultrasound, CT and MRI. In some cases, even a biopsy might also be suggested. Treatment of kidney disease mostly includes diuretics, statins, erythropoietin and in some in cases, even dialysis might also be suggested. Patient might also be advised kidney transplant.
