Head Lice :
Head lice are tiny insects that exist on the human scalp and feed off blood. They cause inconvenience in children especially, and they spread easily because they thrive well in close contact with other people like when sharing hats, combs, or pillows. Main symptoms of head lice include itching on the scalp due to allergic reactions caused by the bites. On examination, very small, white or light grayish eggs, called nits, that are attached to the hair shafts within the area closest to the scalp can be seen. Lice treatment typically involves medicated shampoos or lotions that kill the lice on the head. In some cases, doctors will prescribe stronger treatments if the lice do not clear up. The patient will also be advised to comb all of the hair with a fine-toothed comb to remove the nits. In addition to this, prevention of re-infestation can be done by washing clothes, bedding, and personal items that the lice might have encountered. Head lice are not a disease, but they are painful enough to require immediate treatment. While some home remedies may work, failure to treat, leads doctors to prescribe stronger medication.
