Haemodialysis :

This is one among the three modalities of treatment for cases of failure of the kidneys . In this procedure, waste products along with excess fluids and other toxins which are things which the body cannot filter properly when the kidneys fail or are not effective are removed from the blood. This is done by removing the blood from the body through a special tubing passed into a dialysis machine to be passed through the dialyzer, often called artificial kidney. It filters the blood, removing harmful materials from the body.

Hemodialysis is usually offered three times a week. Usually, the average can range for each session of hemodialysis between three to five hours on average. It is for the patients suffering from chronic renal diseases, acute renal insufficiency or for the patient waiting for the cadaveric kidney transplant.

Common sites of introduction of treatment include a surgically created fistula an access between an artery and a vein. Otherwise, a catheter is placed directly into a large vein. All these patients typically experience complications such as hypotension, muscle spasms, or general debilitation. Though hemodialysis is a life sustaining treatment it is not therapeutic for kidney disease thus, intensive monitoring and management are required for a patient on hemodialysis.
