Dyspareunia :
Dyspareunia is the medical term used to describe pain during sexual intercourse. It can develop in both men and women but it is more common in women. The pain may affect any part of the genitals, and may occur before, during or after intercourse. There are many possible causes of dyspareunia. In many cases, the pain originates from a lack of lubrication. In some cases, the pain occurs due to an injury, infection or involuntary spasms in the vagina. Emotional and psychological issues can also cause dyspareunia. A gynecologist can diagnose the condition with a thorough medical history, and pelvic exam. Other tests, such as a pelvic ultrasound may also be required to find the root cause of the pain. The condition can be treated with medications, counseling or desensitization therapy depending on the cause.
