Diabetic Nephropathy :

It is a severe form of kidney disease due to many years of uncontrolled diabetes. This form of damage impairs the tiny blood vessels within the kidneys so that they cannot filter waste material. More frequently, it appears among those who have a long history of poorly controlled diabetes, hypertension or are told that they have a marked family history of kidney disease. It may begin slowly with edema of the legs and feet, feeling tired, urinating lots, and high blood pressure. As the disease progresses, protein in the urine may be able to outline the amount of deterioration of the kidneys. Proper management hinges on early detection. Typically, it is managed with control of blood glucose levels and blood pressure and there may also be drugs used, such as ACE inhibitors or ARBs, that are intended to help preserve the kidneys. Proper diet, regular exercises, and no smoking are lifestyle recommendations. The advanced cases require dialysis or kidney transplantation. Early treatment can drastically reduce the progression of diabetic nephropathy.Along with the Diabetologist a nephrologist also should be consulted for the necessary treatment.
