Craniopharyngiomas :
Craniopharyngiomas are a tumorous condition affecting the pituitary gland and associated brain structures. It is a non-cancerous growth arising from an embryogenic pituitary gland tissue. Craniopharyngiomas have less prevalence in general. They clinically develop and manifest during late childhood and older age groups. They mainly affect vision, cause headaches and general weakness, and difficulty performing everyday activities with increased incidences of urination. A neurosurgeon evaluates, investigates, and manages these tumors which cause pituitary hormonal imbalance. These tumors result in slow and delayed growth and development in children due to a lack of necessary growth hormones. A complete clinical investigation study is conducted by a neurosurgeon to rule out other potential differential diagnoses. Based on the extent of damage involved and the location of the tumor, surgical management of craniopharyngiomas is recommended. It can be further managed with radiation therapy and chemotherapy sessions. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment planning for craniopharyngiomas may help in extending the life expectancy of the affected children.
