Clavicle Fracture :

Another term for a fractured clavicle is the broken collar bone that is the cracked clavicle and the clavicle is the bone that bears a shoulder on one end and the sternum at the other. In general terms, most fractures in this area are caused by trauma, including falls, sports injuries, and accidents where there was some form of impact on either the shoulder or outstretched arm. The nature involved in the activities causes it to occur more predominantly in children and athletes. It results in painful swelling and bruising of the surrounding area.

The region from the break may be tender, swollen, painful when moved through various arm positions, and the shoulder will sag inward. There is a bony raised deformity over the break. A diagnosis can be located through physical examination and X-ray imaging. The treatment of the fracture would depend on the intensity of the break. If it's mild then slings are used for immobilization of the arm accompanied by pain relieving medications and physiotherapy. If the displacement is severe, surgical intervention in the form of fixation with plates or screws is undertaken for correct repositioning of the bones to ensure appropriate healing and function.
