Celiac Disease :
Celiac disease - an autoimmune disease where the small intestine of the patient is affected due to intolerance for gluten found in grains as wheat, barley rye. In this condition gluten triggers immune response, which then releases inflammatory cells and antibodies leading to destruction of lining of small intestine. The patient as a result suffers from multiple symptoms such as anemia, bloating, weight loss, diarrhea, fatty stools. Chronic cases have malnutrition, and vitamin deficiency. Females are more susceptible to this disease. It is usually associated with a gene mutation HLA DQ2/DQ8. Other auto immune diseases as downs, Williams, turners syndrome might also trigger this condition due to shared genes. Your gastroenterologist might conduct a biopsy through upper GI endoscopy would help in the diagnosing the extent of damage to the intestine. A gluten free diet might be advised and it should be maintained for life long
