Blood in vomit :
The term blood in vomit is referred to as hematemesis, whereby a person's vomit contains blood, and it can appear bright red or coffee ground like color, which suggests older blood. In any case, the condition can occur for so many reasons like stomach ulcers, severe gastritis, a tear in the esophagus, liver disease, or even excessive vomiting. Sometimes blood in the vomit can be a sign of a more serious medical condition, which is often accompanied by dizziness, pain in the stomach, and weakness. The color of the blood also indicates whether it is an active or recent bleed or an older bleed. A bright red color is often associated with an active or current bleed, and darker, coffee ground-like blood is associated with a more chronic bleed. Treatment depends on the cause of hematemesis. Diagnosis is done by procedures such as endoscopy or colonoscopy to locate the cause of the bleed. Other treatments include medications that reduce acidity of the stomach, medicines for treating infections, and in extreme cases, surgery or blood transfusions. If large amount of blood is seen in the vomit, this is an indication for immediate need of medical attention.
