Astigmatism :
Astigmatism refers to a refractive error indicating that either the cornea or the lens is more curved than it should be. This condition eventually makes the vision blurry. Astigmatism is classified into various types, such as corneal astigmatism and lens astigmatism. Corneal astigmatism occurs due to the irregular shape of the cornea, and if there is an irregularity in the lens, it is known as lenticular astigmatism. The major signs of astigmatism are difficulty in seeing details on objects and blurred vision. Other presenting complaints of astigmatism are squinting to see clearly, seeing a glare or halos around lights, headaches, eye strain, and fatigue. The causative factors of astigmatism include hereditary conditions, issues like eye injuries, complications after eye surgery and keratoconus. The treatment methods to correct astigmatism include using corrective lenses, eyeglasses, contact lenses, or vision correcting surgery like photo refractive keratectomy, LASIK eye surgery, or PRK eye surgery.
