Amnesia :
Causes of amnesia vary and include direct damage of the brain from accidents and so on, strokes, brain infections, alcoholism such as that experienced in Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, and even emotional trauma. A form known as dissociative amnesia results from severe stress or psychological shock.
Some symptoms of amnesia are the inability to recall past events, difficulty forming new memories, and confusion. Normally amnesiacs usually remain intact in terms of their ability to think and reason.
Treatment focuses on the cause for example, therapy may include psychological trauma or reconditioning if there are brain injuries. Other helpful things can be cognitive therapies, memory aids, and medications for associated problems like anxiety or depression. In rare cases complete recovery cannot be achieved however some patients recover their memory after some time while undergoing treatment.
