Graves Disease :
Graves disease is one of the autoimmune diseases. In Graves disease, the immune system attacks the thyroid gland and makes it produce excess thyroid hormone. It is also the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. Symptoms seen in Graves disease are fast heart rate (tachycardia), excessive sweating of the body, shortness of breath, heat intolerance, anxiety, tremors, hair loss, enlarged thyroid gland, insomnia, weight loss, minimal bleeding during menstruation, warm and moist skin. There are other symptoms associated with Graves disease, such as double vision, bulging eyes, pain in eyes, light sensitivity, pressure in eyes, and irritation of eyes. Graves disease is diagnosed through thyroid blood tests, thyroid scans, thyroid antibody blood tests, and Doppler ultrasound scans. Treatment of Graves disease includes medications, radioiodine therapy, and surgical removal of partial or complete thyroid gland.
