Abortion :
Medical abortion is a procedure where pills are used to end a pregnancy. The pills used to end pregnancy are mifepristone, which blocks progesterone that is needed to support pregnancy, and misoprostol which causes cramping and bleeding to empty the uterus. Medical abortion is not a safe option if the person is too far along the pregnancy, if the person is allergic to medicines, if the person has a pregnancy outside the uterus, is using long term corticosteroids, has an intrauterine device, has a blood clotting disorder, anemia and chronic adrenal failure. The benefits of an abortion are ending a pregnancy early and passing a pregnancy. Risks of medical abortion include failure to end or retain the pregnancy, heavy bleeding, digestive pain, diarrhea, allergic reaction to medications and infections.
