Dyspareunia :
Dyspareunia in common language is called as genital pain during intercourse. This is a response describing discomfort or pain that occurs during or after sexual activity, both in men and women. But it is more commonly reported by women. Causes of dyspareunia can be due to various physical reasons such as vaginal dryness, infections, and pelvic inflammatory disease, or even conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, or vulvodynia. Symptoms include a sharp, burning, or aching sensation that will be experienced in the genital or pelvic region. Pain usually is experienced during penetration or some other point during sexual activity. The pain may be mild, severe, or anything in between, some women may experience soreness even after intercourse. Depending on its cause the treatment of dyspareunia varies. It may include such medical interventions like antifungal or antibiotic treatments in the case of infections, hormone therapy in vaginal dryness, surgery in the presence of actual physical conditions. Counseling or therapy is recommended in the case of emotional or psychological causes. Consultation with a doctor will be necessary for effective identification and treatment of cause.
