Otologist :
An otologist, also called an otolaryngologist or an ENT specialist, deals with the diagnosis and treatment of ear diseases. An otologist is qualified with a graduation in MBBS, followed by post-graduation in MS, and then specialised training in ENT. The conditions that can be managed by an otologist will be hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing or buzzing of the ear), acute and chronic ear infections, balance disorders like dizziness, disequilibrium, vertigo, congenital ear malformations like microtia, otosclerosis, atresia, facial nerve disorders, and cholesteatoma. The surgical treatment procedures which are performed by an otologist will be the repair of damaged ear structures, installation of cochlear implants, removal of abnormal growths, surgical removal of the stapes bone present in the middle ear, and cochlear implant surgery for regaining hearing loss. When there are symptoms such as ringing in the ears (tinnitus), hearing loss, ear pain, dizziness, drainage of the ear, along with fever or pain, pressure in the ears, ear infections, swallowing difficulty, frequent nose bleeds, sleep apnea, changes in voice, lumps in the neck and face.
