Vitiligo :
Vitiligo is a skin condition in which the skin loses its colour and becomes white. It usually affects the skin in patches that can be small or large. The condition can also cause hair in the affected area to become silver or white. Vitiligo develops when the immune system begins destroying the cells that give the skin its colour. The condition can be diagnosed with a visual examination. A dermatologist may expose the affected skin to a Wood's lamp. This test will allow the doctor to determine whether the skin changes are due to vitiligo or another skin condition. Vitiligo does not require treatment, but an affected individual can seek treatment if the condition affects their mental and emotional health. Treatment can either restore the colour or remove it from the skin. Treatment options include light therapy, medications, surgery and depigmentation therapy.
