Vaginal Dryness :
Vaginal dryness is otherwise medically termed as vaginal atrophy. Decreased estrogen levels, progression of age, use of certain medication, history of diabetes and other autoimmune diseases, lack of arousal during sexual intercourse are the factors which cause vaginal dryness. It is associated with sensation of dryness, burning or itching in the vaginal area, painful sexual intercourse, painful urination and urinary frequency, and difficulty to attain orgasm. Use of lubricants during intercourse, vaginal moisturizers, topical estrogen creams and vaginal estrogen tablets may lessen the vaginal dryness. Hormone replacement therapy can also be recommended by a gynecologist based on the severity of the condition. Managing stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can play an important role in controlling vaginal dryness and underlying symptoms.
