Urinary Incontinence :
Urinary incontinence is an involuntary loss of urinary control. It is of various types based on the cause of incontinence such as stress incontinence, urge incontinence and overflow incontinence. It can affect patient's daily life and mental health. Weakened pelvic muscles, hormonal changes, neurological disorders like stroke or Parkinson's disease, and certain medications may cause urinary incontinence. It is associated with increased frequency and urgency of urination. A urologist or general physican evaluates the history of clinical symptoms and provides a suitable treatment plan. Counseling of pelvic floor exercises, bladder training, medications, use of catheters and surgical interventions as needed are deemed to be essential for the recovery. Avoidance of smoking, alcohol, stress, certain medications, and caffeine can play a significant role in maintenance of urinary incontinence.
