Undescended testis :

An undescended testis is also known as a cryptorchidism. This condition refers to the failure of one or both testicles to move into the scrotum before birth. The testicles usually develop in the abdomen before descending to the scrotum at a time during pregnancy or shortly after birth. If this does not occur then it will remain in the abdomen or groin area. Undescended testis occurs more in premature babies but can also affect full-term babies. There would be no immediate symptoms in such cases, but complications could arise because of it, like infertility in the affected individual, testicular cancer or twisting of the testicle (torsion) if not treated. Surgery also called orchidopexy is usually used in such cases where the testicle is moved down to the scrotum. This is usually done when the child is about 6 months to 1 year old. Hormone therapy may also be used to encourage a natural drop of the testicle. Early intervention can avoid long-term issues and enhance the possibility of normal testicular function.
