Tubectomy :
Tubal ligation is also known as tubectomy. Tubectomy is a permanent method of birth control or family planning. Tubectomy is a procedure which involves ligation (to tie) of fallopian tubes present in the uterus, thus preventing fertilization of the egg with sperm. Tubectomy is also called female sterilization or tubal sterilization, which is performed after the delivery of the baby. It is the most effective method to control the pregnancy. Tubectomy can be done in different types of methods, such as using a special thread to tie up the tubes, sealing using electricity, and bands or clips are used to close the tubes. There is also other method called laparoscopic tubal ligation, which is a minimally invasive procedure. The benefits associated with tubectomy are that it is a nonhormonal form of childbirth control, is highly effective, helps in reducing the risk of cancers, and is a convenient procedure. The disadvantage of this procedure is that the reversal of the procedure to conceive again is expensive.
