Skin tags also known as acrochordons are small, non cancerous or benign growths that form on the skin usually in the areas of skin folds like nape of the neck , underarms, groin region and other areas like face, back and eye lids etc. Although genetics play a role in formation of skin tags , other risk factors include obesity, metabolic diseases like diabetes, insulin resistance, hormonal changes and aging. Skin tags are small, soft growths that are attached to skin by a peduncle usually of 1-5mm and skin-colored or slightly darker with a smooth or an irregular surface. Management is done by a dermatologist by surgical excision, cryotherapy (freezing), ligation, cauterization (burning) and heal with little to no scar tissue.
