Pterygium :
Pterygium is a fleshy growth that begins from the corner of the eye and slowly spreads across the eye. Such a growth is usually triangular in shape and has a succulent appearance. Blood vessels may also be visible in this growth. Pterygium is also known as the surfer's eye. It develops due to excessive exposure to UV light, wind, sand, and salt. This growth can cause eye dryness, watery eyes, itching, burning, and pain. It can keep growing until it is treated, and it causes vision issues and discomfort when wearing contact lenses. An ophthalmologist can diagnose this condition with an eye test. Treatment may not be required if the growth does not affect the vision. If the growth irritates, the doctor may prescribe eye drops to provide relief. Many people opt to surgically remove this growth from the eye for cosmetic reasons.
