Otomycosis :
Otomycosis is described as a fungal ear infection affecting the ear canal. The significant signs of otomycosis include earache, discoloration of outer ear or ear canal to the colors yellow, green, black, white or gray, inflammation, discharge (green, black, yellow, white or gray), intense itching, pain in the ear, headache, flaky skin around the ear canal, tinnitus, a feeling of fullness in the ears, severe ear pain, dizziness, hearing loss, fever. Fungi, mainly Aspergillus and Candida, are responsible for causing otomycosis. The risk factors associated with otomycosis include SCUBA diving, swimming, water skiing, waster-ski and participating in other water sports, a weakened immune system, use of cotton swabs or hairpins to clean the ear wax, ear eczema and ear injuries and trauma. The treatment methods to manage otomycosis include prescribing medications like oral antifungals, ear drops, cleaning the ears thoroughly, ear wicks, using topical ointments and antifungal creams.
