Optic Neuropathy :
Optic neuropathy thus is a disease of the optic nerve which is a nerve that relays signals from the eye to the brain. This condition may lead to vision loss or to an alteration in the vision and is often associated with glaucoma, ischemia, inflammation and trauma. There is nutritional optic neuropathy or toxic optic neuropathy. Some of the features of optic neuropathy are poor vision, distorted colors or even a blind spot right in the center of the vision. In some cases the patients will also report that they experience eye pain while shifting their eye from one position to the other. Depending on the cause of the manifestation, the treatment process is to be followed. If the inflammation is the root of this ailment then the doctor may use corticosteroids to reduce the swelling. Continuity of these diseases must also be upheld, this refers to control of hypertension or management of infection. In many of these cases, one is called upon to use a diplomat or an early consult with an eye doctor in a bid to check on the progress of the situation or risk being completely blind .
