Optic Neuritis :
Optic neuritis is a kind of neuropathy that can affect the eyes, thus causing loss of vision and eye pain. Optic neuritis is an inflammation that affects the signals passing through the optic nerve, connecting the brain and eyes. There will be three types of optic neuritis: atypical optic neuritis, typical optic neuritis, and pediatric optic neuritis. The optic neuritis will be caused due to reasons such as infections, drugs and toxins, autoimmune conditions, and inflammatory conditions. The symptoms that will be noticed in optic neuritis will be vision loss, pain in the eye, vision acuity loss, visual field defects, and color blindness. The diagnosis of optic neuritis will be based on tests such as the visual acuity test, the visual field test, pupil reflexes, slit lamp examination, visual evoked potentials, and optical coherence tomography. An MRI scan will also be done for the diagnosis of the lesions in the brain. The treatment advised for optic neuritis will be through intravenous medication of steroids, and by managing the underlying cause.
