Myocardial Infarction ( MI ) :
Myocardial infarction is known as heart attack in common language and it occurs when an artery of the heart develops a blockage which results to the decrease or absence of blood flow to the several parts of the heart. The common reasons for the formation of blockages in the heart are due to the development of fatty deposits. Absence of blood flow leads to the depletion of the oxygen to the muscles of the heart which in turn results to the death of the cardiac muscle.
Common symptoms of myocardial infarction are chest pain which might be radiating or non radiating, sweatings and shortness of breath. Treatment includes administration of thrombolytic agents and revascularization .Risk factors for developing a myocardial infarction include smoking, uncontrolled blood sugars, hypertension and dyslipidemia.
