Leukemia :
Leukemia is the cancer of white blood cells effecting the blood and bone marrow. Leukemia effects all age groups some in particular effect children (ALL ,Acute lymphocytic leukemia) causing mortality and morbidity. It can of different types depending the abnormal growth of a particular cells and they include ALL(fast growing,common in children),acute myeloid leukemia(AML), chronic myeloid leukemia(CML) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia(CLL). The risk factors for leukemia includes genetic mutations, family history, radiation exposure,certain chemicals and viral infections etc. The signs and symptoms are weakness or fatigue, weight loss, loss of appetite, easy bruising, bleeding through gums, recurrent infections, swollen lymph nodes and enlarged spleen and liver. Diagnosis is made by an oncologist by physical examination , history, blood tests and bone marrow biopsy and the treatment involves chemotherapy , radiation, targeted therapy and bone marrow transplant in severe cases.
