Keratitis :
Keratitis is a medical term for inflammation of the corneal part of the eyes. Keratitis is also known as corneal ulcer. It is one of the most common conditions affecting the eyes due to infections, repetitive usage of contact lens, unknown trauma or injury to cornea, dry eyes or other medical conditions. Based on the etiology, it is divided into infectious and non-infectious keratitis. It causes increased redness of cornea, associated with eye pain, blurry vision and tearing. An ophthalmologist or eye doctor checks for complete patient history and clinical eye symptoms. After necessary lab tests and imaging studies, a diagnosis of keratitis is made. It is treated with eye drops or medications based on the causative agents. Over-the-counter pain relievers may be used to alleviate the eye pain, and proper maintenance of contact lenses is essential to prevent progression of keratitis. Practicing good eye hygiene, avoiding allergens and sharp beauty products for eye makeup and using medications as prescribed may help in controlling the symptoms of keratitis. Immediate medical attention is important to avoid further risks such as bleeding, or vision loss.
