Hole in Heart :
A hole in the heart is a heart condition in which there is an abnormal opening in the septum or the wall that separates the chambers of the heart. A hole in the heart is divided into two types, such as atrial septal defect and ventricular septal defect, based on the location of the hole. Atrial septal defect is defined as a hole between the atria or two upper chambers of the heart and induces symptoms such as shortness of breath, heart palpitations, fatigue, swelling in the arms and legs, blue skin color, and a fast heartbeat. A ventricular septal defect refers to a hole in the wall that separates the lower chambers of the heart, or the ventricular septum. The presenting complaints of a ventricular septal defect include shortness of breath, fatigue, or sweating during feeding, frequent respiratory infections, and growth faltering. The treatment options to manage this condition include prescribing specific medications, transcatheter procedures, and surgical interventions to close the defect.
