Hoarseness :
Hoarseness is also known as dysphonia and is characterized by voice sounding rough, raspy, strained, or breathy and affects how loud a person speaks or voice pitch. The common identifiable symptoms stating that one has hoarseness are voice sounding as if the person has a hard time talking, speaking quietly or softer than usual, having a raspy or breathy voice and voice sounding higher or lower than regular. One should consult a doctor if they have signs like pain while speaking or swallowing, having a hard time breathing or swallowing, blood in a cough, lump in the neck and when the voice is lost. Hoarseness is usually caused due to laryngitis, cheering, yelling after a long speech, chronic acid reflux, vocal cord hemorrhage, vocal nodules, cysts and polyps, vocal cord paralysis, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, spasmodic dysphonia and muscle tension dysphonia, stroke, Parkinson's disease and cancers like laryngeal cancer, lung cancer and throat cancer.
