ERCP :
ERCP or Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography is a combination of endoscopy and fluoroscopy. ERCP is performed to visualize and also identify problems associated with the bile ducts, pancreas, liver and gall bladder. ERCP is recommended to see if there are any blockages or stones in bile ducts, fluid leakage from bile or pancreatic ducts, narrowing or blockages of pancreatic ducts, infections and tumors in the bile ducts. The side effects that may arise after ERCP are inflammation of gall bladder or pancreas, collection of bile outside the biliary system, bleeding, infection and a tear in the lining of upper part of small intestine, esophagus or stomach. After ERCP, the patient should seek immediate medical care if they experience symptoms like fever with chills, swelling, redness and bleeding or drainage from the IV site, throat and chest pain that worsens, abdominal pain, trouble while swallowing, black, bloody or tarry stools, vomiting and nausea.
