Deviated Nasal Septum :
A deviated nasal septum is described as a condition where the nasal septum, which divides the nostrils, slightly bends towards one side and changes the shape of the nose. The presenting complaints of a deviated nasal septum are nasal congestion, nose bleeds, difficulty in breathing out of one or both nostrils, facial pain, headaches, noisy breathing, snoring, sleep apnea, and chronic sinusitis. A deviated nasal septum may not cause any difficulties in some, but may present at the time of birth, and also occur due to nose injuries like car accidents, playing contact sports, falls, and fights in a few. The complications of a deviated nasal septum include chronic sinus issues, nasal congestion, snoring, sleep apnea, dry mouth, and nose bleeds. The management of a deviated nasal septum involves various treatment options, such as taking medications like antihistamines, nasal decongestants, and nasal steroid sprays, and a surgical procedure called septoplasty.
