COPD :
COPD is described as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, a lung disease that causes breathing complaints. The causative factors of COPD include smoking, long-term exposure to air pollutants and occupational dust that can damage the lungs and genetic factors like alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. COPD encompasses emphysema and chronic bronchitis, in which the alveoli are damaged, and the airways become inflamed. The symptoms induced by COPD include chronic cough with mucus, wheezing and fatigue, cyanosis (bluish skin), shortness of breath while performing daily activities and chest tightness. COPD may further complicate and cause severe lung infections and increase the risk of lung cancer, too. The management of COPD includes quitting the smoking habit, taking medications like bronchodilators, antibiotics and corticosteroids, oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, making lifestyle changes and surgeries or valve procedures to reduce the trapped air in the lungs.
